I am not even going to try to cut mine, thye are not in the best shape...but the guys who are going to install my new stereo will make a "kick panel" and install speakers in it and have it right on top of original, so if i ever want to take off i can and not damage the original :D
At least it will happen when I find the dough, but is already designed. :D
Good luck and keep us posted!

Tom........

You can buy kick panels with speakers installed from OPGI - see page 121 of their current catalog. I installed a set on my '70 a couple of years ago to support a stealth audio system. Kick panels look great and the speakers are excellent.

I bought kick panels for speakers from a place in Arizona. There made by I think the name is custom auto sound. I bought with out speakers for $75. They sell these kick panels with Pioneer speakers also. About $140, if you up grade to a better Pioneer speaker its $179. I bought that up graded Pioneer speaker from Circuit City for $42 internet price and picked them up at the store. Thats a total of $117, savings of over $50. The kick panels fit very good. BTW, we are talking 6 1/2" speakers.

I don't think it will be deep enough to install the speakers without the panels being pushed out of place. I have some shallow 4X6's in the stock location and they just barely fit. The originals are very thin to fit into the small indent.
