hey guys,

i'm interested in a manual steering box set up that a friend told me about.
he loves it saying you can really "feel" the road.

what's your take on manual?
i just hate the sloppy - floaty feel of power steering.

thanks in advance!

zoo if you install one of the newer power steering units the road feel is there without the need to muscle your way in and out of parking spots. I have an IROC steering gear on the El Camino and an AGR unit for the Nova. Both give a tight road feel and are less then 3 turns from far right to far left (lock to lock) where as the manual gear is around 5 turns lock to lock.

thanks for your input philip.
i have actually u-turned on my decision to go manual for the fact that the car is a heavier car, and i will be running 8" wheels up front.

a builder in the south bay that my best-friend is working with, has mentioned that you can get your stock power steering re-worked to create more road feel and tension in the handling.

(i noticed you have a TKO. we need to talk) :)

Brandon, The TKO is still in the crate, but hopefully I will get the engine and tranny in the Nova before the end of the year. I purchased mine from Dark Horse Performance in WA. The kits were too expensive for my budget. The trans was under $1800 shipped, included the speedo cable and gear, a stock mount and yoke. The driveshaft is the only thing left that will need to be purchased. I modified the crossmember to work, got a McLeod scatter shield and Weber clutch set up. The pedals and linkage are installed and it is time to mark and cut the floor open.
