Does anybody know the performance difference is these two setups? Better torque, hp ??

Yes, and x pipe flows better but an h pipe has better scavenging effects, So in my own humble opinnion an h pipeis better.

As the old saying goes, "6 of one and half a dozen of the other". I would say that on a modest street car that it would make absolutely no difference. Unless you've got a pocket full of money, just go with the H pipe. They are usually way less expensive to weld up.

H pipes have been around since the 60's. I had exhaust work done on a 57 Chevy way back when in a little shop in Mesa. The owner suggested I try one and I consented He stated that proper placement of the H pipe is important for maximum gains. To find out where to place it a line was drawn on the pipes with a yellow tire marking crayon from front to rear and the car started. At the point where the mark did not melt the H pipe was installed. I don't remember why only that he felt that was the optimum location.

If you want the exhaust to sound mean go with the H-pipe as the X-pipe will mellow out the exhaust note.

the h-pipe has the advantage of adding effective collector length which boosts low end torque but it must be mounted close to the collector flange. the x-pipe doesn't add effective collector length but it equalizes exhast gas pressures and aids in scavenging.. they're both great enhancements to your exhust system.. the trick about using a crayon to mark the pipe and installing the h-pipe where the crayon stopped burning is incorrect, the point where the crayon stopped burning is where the collectors should end, this is only if you intend to add collector length, the h-pipe should have been installed further upstream than the point where the crayon stopped burning... if you want to tune the collectors then drop the exhaust and add 18" of pipe the same size as the collector to end of the collector, mark a line down the collector extension with your crayon and run the engine, where the crayon stops burning cut the collector at this point and use a reducer to decrease pipe size 1/2", run that back to the mufflers or an x-pipe and let er eat
